This Discord font generator turns your text into Unicode letters (bold, script, gothic, bubble and more) that you can paste into a Discord display name, server nickname, About Me or message. They are characters, not formatting, so no Nitro or bot is needed. The one field they never fit is your @username, which Discord limits to a-z, 0-9, underscores and periods.
How to use the Discord font generator
- Enter your name or message in the box above.
- Scroll the styles, which update as you type, or filter them by name.
- Press Copy on the one you want.
- In Discord, select your name at the bottom left, choose Edit Profile and paste into Display Name or About Me. For a server nickname, right-click your name in the member list and choose Edit per-server profile.
Where can you use fancy fonts on Discord?
Anywhere you type a name or a message, except your @username. Discord's help centre says a display name can include special and non-Latin characters, and an About Me can hold Unicode. Every field, with the limit Discord publishes:
| Field | Styled fonts? | Limit | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display name | Yes | 1 to 32 characters | Usernames & Display Names |
| Server nickname | Yes, if your role has Change Nickname | 1 to 32 characters | Server Nicknames, User docs |
| About Me | Yes, with emoji, markdown and links | 190 characters, markdown and links included | Custom Profiles |
| Messages | Yes, though a server's AutoMod can filter symbols | 2,000 characters (4,000 with Nitro) | Caps, AutoMod FAQ |
| Server name | No character rule published | 2 to 100 characters | Guild docs |
| Channel name | No character rule published | 1 to 100 characters | Channel docs |
| Role name | No character rule published | 100 characters | Caps |
| @username | No: a-z, 0-9, _ and . only | 2 to 32 characters, lowercase | Usernames & Display Names |
| Server Tag | Only alphanumeric and certain special characters | 4 characters | Server Tags |
Discord's developer docs (User Resource), captured 23 October 2026. Names accept most Unicode and nicknames run 1 to 32 characters. For the @username, the help centre's newer a-z, 0-9, _ and . rule is stricter.
A server nickname overrides your display name in that server. Decorations eat the 32 characters fast: the Gaming Frame adds 8. Friends can still @mention you by your plain username, because Discord searches both names.
Doesn't Discord already support formatting?
Yes, in messages. Discord uses Markdown, so a few symbols around your words restyle them. Here are examples, with the syntax from its help centre (Markdown Text 101, Spoiler Tags):
| Effect | Type this |
|---|---|
| Bold | **Nova** |
| Italics | *Nova* or _Nova_ |
| Bold italics | ***Nova*** |
| Underline | __Nova__ |
| Strikethrough | ~~Nova~~ |
| Header (## or ### for smaller) | # Nova |
| Subtext | -# Nova |
| Spoiler | ||Nova|| |
| Inline code | `Nova` |
| Block quote | > Nova |
| Masked link | [Nova](https://example.org) |
Headers and subtext must start a line, with a space after the #. The help centre documents markdown for messages and the About Me, not for names.
Discord also sells fonts for one field. With Nitro, Display Name Styles set your display name in one of 12 fonts, from gg sans and Tempo to Vampyre and 8Bit, with colours and effects such as Neon. Servers show only the font, and without Nitro you can preview a style but not save it.
Markdown vs Unicode fonts: which should you use?
Markdown for messages, Unicode fonts for names, and plain letters for anything people must read.
| Markdown | Unicode fonts (this page) | Display Name Styles | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What changes | How Discord draws your letters | The letters themselves | How Discord draws your display name |
| Works in | Messages, About Me | Display name, nickname, About Me, messages | Display name only |
| Looks | Bold, italic, underline, strike, headers, subtext, spoilers | Script, gothic, outline, bubble, small caps, frames | 12 fonts, 7 effects, custom colours |
| Cost | Free | Free | Nitro |
| Screen readers | Ordinary words | Maths and symbol characters, which may be read oddly or skipped | Same name underneath, per Discord |
The screen-reader row is the catch. 𝗡 is not N but MATHEMATICAL SANS-SERIF BOLD CAPITAL N, and the Unicode Standard says such letters should not be used to represent styling of nonmathematical text. Style one word of a name, not a whole bio, as with bold text or small caps. For darker looks, try the gothic and glitch generators.
Which Discord fonts show as boxes?
None, on our test machine. On 23 October 2026 we ran a pangram and all ten digits through all 39 styles in Playwright's Chromium 151 and WebKit 26.5 (Safari's engine) on macOS 26.6. A script compared every character with the empty box a missing one draws, and none matched.

The fonts macOS used, as Chromium reports them, show where the risk sits on other devices:
| Style | Font macOS used |
|---|---|
| Sans Bold, Bold Fraktur, Bold Script, Outline, Monospace | STIX Two Math |
| Gaming Frame marks (꧁༒☬) | Noto Sans Javanese and Kailasa (Tibetan), plus Apple Symbols |
| Star Wings, Fullwidth | PingFang (Chinese) |
| Manga | Noto Sans Yi |
| Squared Filled, Runic | Apple Symbols |

A device without a Javanese, Tibetan or Yi font shows boxes there, which is why our tofu guide rates ornate frames as fragile. We could not test inside Discord, which needs an account, and Firefox was not installed. Discord itself says some symbols in Display Name Styles fall back to gg sans.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Discord font generator free?
Yes, and you do not need Nitro: the styles are Unicode characters any account can paste. Nitro only unlocks Discord's own Display Name Styles.
Can I use fancy fonts in my Discord username?
No. Usernames allow only lowercase a-z, 0-9, underscores and periods. Style your display name or a server nickname instead.
How long can a Discord display name be?
From 1 to 32 characters, frames and symbols included.
Will styled text work in Discord channel and role names?
Discord lists only length limits for them, 1 to 100 characters for a channel and 100 for a role. Try a short name first and check it on a phone too.
Do these fonts work with Discord bots?
A styled word is made of different characters from the plain one, so unless a bot converts them back, type its commands in plain letters.
