Small caps suit acronyms inside running text, subheadings, the opening words of a chapter, and short labels. They do not suit body copy - a long paragraph in small caps is noticeably slower to read than the same paragraph in mixed case.
Unicode Small Caps vs Real Small Caps
A professionally designed typeface draws small caps at the correct weight and width so they sit evenly with lowercase. Unicode small caps are borrowed from the phonetic alphabet, so their weight is slightly inconsistent and one letter is missing an ideal form. For print and design work use a real small-caps font; for plain text, this is the only option that survives a copy and paste.
