What this site does

Fonts Mania converts anything you type into styled text you can copy and paste. The styles are not font files and not images — they are Unicode characters that already exist on your device, which is why the appearance survives being pasted into a bio, a caption, a username or a document.

How it works

Unicode contains complete alphabets of styled letters: mathematical bold and italic, script, fraktur, double-struck, monospace, circled and squared letters, small capitals, fullwidth forms and more. A generator maps each character you type to its equivalent in one of those ranges. Combining diacritical marks stack on top for strikethrough, underline and glitch effects.

All of that happens in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted, logged or stored on a server, and the site works offline once loaded.

Honest limitations

Styled Unicode is a workaround, not a typesetting system, and it has real costs. Screen readers may announce these characters one at a time or skip them entirely. Search engines do not treat them as the letters they resemble. Some ranges are missing on older Android devices and render as empty boxes. A few styles are incomplete because Unicode never encoded every letter — script has no digits, and small caps has no capital X.

The practical rule: use styled text for accents and emphasis, and keep names, headings, links and anything anyone needs to read in plain letters.

Why not just use a font file?

Because most of the places people want styled text will not let you choose a font. An Instagram bio, a LinkedIn post, a Discord display name, a form field, a spreadsheet cell — all of them render text in a font the platform chose. Installing a typeface on your own machine changes nothing for the people reading your post.

Unicode styling sidesteps that entirely. The style is carried by the characters, so it survives being stored in a database and rendered on someone else's device. Where you can control the font — a document, a design file, a website you build — a real typeface is always the better choice. It will be properly drawn, properly spaced, accessible and searchable.

How this site is built

It is a static site: every page is plain HTML generated ahead of time, with one small stylesheet and two small scripts. There is no backend, no framework, no tracking and no cookies. The style cards you see are rendered into the HTML at build time, so the pages work with JavaScript disabled — JavaScript only adds live updating, copying, filtering and favourites.

Licensing

Unicode characters are not licensed artwork, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to attribute. You can use the output for personal and commercial work freely, including tattoos, logos, prints and merchandise.
