Write for us
Fonts Mania publishes guest and sponsored articles that fit its subject: text, typography, and the systems that process them. This page is the whole deal — what we take, what we decline, how links are handled, and how to pitch.
What we publish
- Guides — Plain explanations of how copy-and-paste fonts work, where they break, and how to use them well.
- Tech & AI — How software, search engines and language models actually handle text - and what that means for anyone who writes or ships it.
- Reviews — Websites, apps and online services people search for by name - checked, dated and scored against a published method.
Within those: Unicode and encoding, typography on the web, how search engines and language models process written content, accessibility technology, text security (homoglyphs, spoofing, confusables), developer tooling around text, and reviews of tools and sites in that space. If your piece would make sense on a general marketing blog with the nouns swapped, it does not fit here.
Standards
- Original. Not published elsewhere, not a rewrite of someone else's article, not spun.
- Checkable. Claims about how a platform, standard or model behaves need a source or a reproducible test. "Studies show" without a study is cut.
- Specific. Real examples, real numbers, real limitations. Generalities get declined at pitch stage.
- Length. 900–2,000 words. Shorter is fine if it says everything it needs to.
- Edited. We edit for accuracy and clarity and will send changes back to you. We do not publish anything the editor has not read in full.
- Disclosed. Any commercial relationship with a product you mention must be stated to us. Undisclosed promotion is the one thing that gets a piece pulled after publication.
Link policy
| Placement | Body links | Author byline link | Label |
|---|---|---|---|
| Editorial (staff) | followed | — | none |
| Guest post | rel="nofollow ugc" | to your site, nofollow by default; the editor may lift it for established contributors | "Guest post" badge + disclosure |
| Sponsored post | rel="sponsored nofollow" | to your site, nofollow | "Sponsored" badge + disclosure above the article |
| Reviews | links to the reviewed subject always nofollow | — | verdict panel with checked date |
These are applied by the publishing system, not by hand, so they cannot be negotiated per article. We do not sell followed links; a request for one ends the conversation. Sponsored placements are labelled as such on the page and in markup, because that is what the rules require and because readers are entitled to know.
How to pitch
- Send a working title, a three-sentence summary of the argument, and which section it belongs in.
- Say whether it is a guest contribution or a sponsored placement, and disclose any commercial interest in the subject.
- If accepted, you get an outline agreement and a deadline. Drafts go through one edit pass with tracked changes.
- Published pieces carry your byline, a short bio and a link to your site under the policy above.
