Is PolyBuzz Safe? Poly AI Privacy, Age Rating and Cost

We read PolyBuzz's Google Play listing, Data safety section, privacy policy and terms, tried it as a guest from India, and rechecked every fact on 26 October 2026: who it is for, what it shares, what it costs, and why the iPhone link fails.

Verdict

3/ 5

Is PolyBuzz safe? For adults who accept ads and data collection, Poly AI (now PolyBuzz) is a legitimate app with 50M+ Google Play downloads, not a scam. It is not for teens: Google Play rates it Mature 17+, its own terms ban under-18s, and outside the UK the age check is a typed-in birthdate. Its Play listing says it may share precise location for advertising.

Checked 26 October 2026 against our review method. Links to PolyBuzz (formerly Poly.AI) are nofollow.

Pros

  • A named company, on Google Play since June 2023, with 50M+ downloads and 4.0 stars from 1.2M reviews; still maintained (version 2.2.90 arrived on 26 October 2026)
  • Free to chat, and the privacy policy lets guests chat without an account, with limits
  • Data encrypted in transit, account deletion in the app, and a policy that says user data is not sold

Cons

  • Precise location may be shared for advertising and, with uploaded photos, used to train its AI
  • 17+ on Google Play, 18+ in its terms, a Teen Mode in its FAQ; outside the UK the check is a typed birthdate
  • Ads and a chat cap when free; plans renew on their own and the terms refuse refunds
  • The App Store listing Google links to was gone on 18, 19 and 26 October 2026, and the web version is blocked in India

Is PolyBuzz safe? What we found by 26 October 2026

PolyBuzz is the AI character-chat app most people mean when they search “Poly AI”. It was renamed from Poly.AI, and it has nothing to do with PolyAI, the enterprise voice company. It comes from a named company, Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, and its Google Play listing shows more than 50 million downloads. We read everything a user agrees to before the first chat, tried the app as a guest, and rechecked every fact on 26 October 2026.

The Google Play listing for PolyBuzz: Chat with AI Friends on 26 October 2026, showing the developer Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, Contains ads, In-app purchases, 4.0 stars from 1.2M reviews, Mature 17+ and 50M+ downloads

PolyBuzz's Google Play listing on the US store, captured 26 October 2026 at phone size. Note the two labels under the developer's name and the Mature 17+ rating.

Three findings decide the answer: location shared for advertising and, with uploaded photos, used to train its AI; 17+ on Play but 18+ in the terms, checked by a typed birthdate outside the UK; and a free app with ads, self-renewing plans and no refunds. For iPhone users there is a fourth: the App Store link Google shows has been dead since at least 18 October.

Between our first read on 18 October and the recheck on 26 October, Google Play pushed version 2.2.90 (we first saw 2.2.82) and the review count passed 1.2 million; the policies, labels and ratings did not change.

Can you try PolyBuzz without an account?

On paper, yes. The privacy policy lets unregistered users “browse the contents and use the AI Chatting features with limitations”, after a birthdate prompt. We could not get that far. On 19 October 2026, logged out, in a fresh browser, from India:

  1. 11:42 UTC: app.polybuzz.ai was a showcase page: pictures of the phone app and links to the policies. No chat, no characters, no birthdate prompt.
  2. 11:44 UTC: www.polybuzz.ai, home of the web version, answered “403 Forbiden. This service is temporarily unavailable in your region.” Its FAQ and terms pages did the same at 11:49.
  3. We stopped there: no VPN, no app install, no account.

We went back on 26 October. The home page, the FAQ and the plan page at polybuzz.ai/membership all showed the same notice, in phone and desktop browsers.

So the birthdate prompt, guest limits, ads, plan screen, report buttons and any filter setting below come from PolyBuzz's own documents, not from screens we saw. We don't use VPNs, so testing them needs the Android app or a reader outside India.

What does PolyBuzz share? The Data safety label

Google Play asks every developer to fill in a Data safety form. PolyBuzz's lists one category under “Data shared”: location, both approximate and precise, each for advertising or marketing. It read the same on 26 October as on 18 October.

The Data shared part of PolyBuzz's Google Play Data safety section on 18 October 2026, with Location opened to show approximate location and precise location, each for advertising or marketing

The Data shared entry in PolyBuzz's Data safety section on Google Play, opened and captured 18 October 2026, and unchanged on 26 October. Both kinds of location are listed for advertising or marketing.

Under “Data collected” the list is longer: name, email address, purchase history, photos, app interactions, other user-generated content, device IDs, crash logs and voice recordings, several marked optional. Data is encrypted in transit, and you can ask for it to be deleted. Two cautions: it is the developer's own declaration, not an audit, and Google's Data safety rules let a developer leave out transfers to service providers working on its behalf, so a short “shared” list is a floor.

Apple's label was thinner still: the archived App Store listing of 4 October 2026 listed only identifiers, for tracking and analytics, and no location at all. Both labels are the developer's own answers; Google's is the fuller one.

What does PolyBuzz do with your chats, photos and location?

The privacy policy, last updated 23 December 2025 and unchanged when we reread it on 26 October 2026, is more direct. It says PolyBuzz may collect “uploaded pictures or input text”, purchase records, device information, “precise geolocation information” and “your Contacts”, and its consent list gives the reasons:

Section 2.1.2.6 User Consent of the PolyBuzz privacy policy on 18 October 2026, listing photos and storage to display or train our AI algorithm, microphone, internet access, precise geolocation to train our AI algorithm, and Contacts

The consent list in PolyBuzz's privacy policy, captured 18 October 2026; the wording was the same on 26 October. Photos and precise geolocation are both listed for training its AI.

So photos you upload, and your precise location if you allow it, can both train PolyBuzz's AI. The Play permission list includes precise location, the camera, the microphone, phone status and “draw over other apps”, but not contacts. The policy shares data with service partners “including the Chat-GPT platform”, names TopOn and Kontext as ad partners, and says in capitals “We DO NOT sell User Information.” The terms add that the company owns the intellectual property in “contents generated during your use of PolyBuzz”.

What age is PolyBuzz for?

Eighteen and over, by PolyBuzz's own terms of use, last updated 18 May 2026, even though Google Play says 17+:

Section 2, Age Restrictions and Verification, of the PolyBuzz terms of use on 18 October 2026: you must have reached 18-year-old to use PolyBuzz, and you must enter your date of birth when you first use it

The age section of PolyBuzz's terms of use, captured 18 October 2026 and unchanged on 26 October. Eighteen is the minimum worldwide, and the check is a birthdate entered on first use.

The check is a date of birth entered the first time you open the app. Guests cannot change it afterwards, under-18s “will be denied for services”, and a false date can get an account suspended. Only in the UK do the terms describe ID checks, by providers such as Ondato or Yoti.

The labels disagree, too. Apple's listing, in the Internet Archive's copy from 4 October 2026, rated PolyBuzz 18+. And PolyBuzz's FAQ, in the archive's copy from 5 October, still claims “graded modes for different age groups” and “a dedicated Teen Mode specifically for children”, which the 18+ terms rule out. We could not open the app to see whether a teen mode exists, so go by the terms: they are what you agree to.

Google Play's “Cash Rewards” note refers to the scheme in the terms that pays character creators “Poins” when others spend Coins on their characters. For parents the point is simpler: by its own rules, PolyBuzz is not for anyone under 18.

Does PolyBuzz have a content filter?

On paper, yes; in the app, we could not check. The terms ban content that “depicts pornography or sexual acts”, promotes self-harm or targets people with hate, and send reports involving children to “a trained human reviewer” within 24 hours. Yet they also say adults “can access the full range of AI-generated content”, and PolyBuzz's own pages still promised “Unrestricted” chats on 26 October.

Asked “Does PolyBuzz have a NSFW filter?”, the archived FAQ doesn't say yes. It says NSFW content isn't shown publicly, recommended content is screened, and rule-breaking characters are marked “Violation” and hidden. That moderates what is listed, not what a private chat can say. Whether a filter switch exists is still open. For problems, you can unfollow a character, block its creator or email PolyBuzz.

How much does PolyBuzz cost? Free vs premium

Chatting is free; paying gets you more of it. The terms sell plans “with multiple service level choices” plus Coins, and Google Play's About this app panel gives the range for everything sold in the app:

The About this app panel of PolyBuzz on Google Play on 26 October 2026, showing version 2.2.90 updated on Oct 26, 2026, 50,000,000+ downloads, in-app purchases of $0.05 to $599.00 per item, and a Mature 17+ content rating with a Cash Rewards note

Google Play's About this app panel for PolyBuzz on the US store, captured 26 October 2026. In-app purchases run from $0.05 to $599.00 per item, and the app was updated that same day.

We could not see live plan prices: the App Store listing is gone and the web shop is blocked from India. The last on record are from Apple's US listing, in the archive's copy from 4 October 2026, which we read again on 26 October:

The Information section of PolyBuzz's App Store listing in the Internet Archive's copy of 4 October 2026, viewed on 26 October 2026, listing the seller Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, an 18+ age rating and in-app purchases from Poly Standard Monthly at $9.90 to Poly Ultimate Monthly Plan at $29.90

The Information section of the App Store listing as the Internet Archive saved it on 4 October 2026, viewed on 26 October 2026: age rating 18+ and the full in-app purchase list. Apple's live page at the same address returns an error.

Plan (App Store, US)Price on 4 October 2026
Poly Standard, weekly$4.99
Poly Standard, monthly$9.90
Poly Premium, monthly$19.90
Poly Ultimate, monthly$29.90
Coins$2.49 for 1,000; $4.99 for 3,000; $9.99 for 8,000

PolyBuzz's own plan page, in the archive's copy from 5 October, was priced in Canadian dollars, so we don't quote it, but it sells “Ad-free” and “Unlimited chats” as extras: free chat has ads and a cap, whatever the FAQ's “free, unlimited” line says.

What you getFreePaid plan or Coins
ChattingYes, with a cap; guests “with limitations”“Unlimited chats”, faster replies
AdsYes“Ad-free”
RenewalNot applicablePlans renew until cancelled
RefundsNot applicableNone, “even if the subscription is subsequently cancelled”

Read the refund row twice. It is section 9.9 of the terms, which also refuse refunds for a child's purchase made “by mistake or accident”. Google Play has its own refund policy, so raise a mistaken charge with Google too.

How many ads does the free version show?

Enough that users notice. On both our visits, 18 and 26 October, two of the three reviews Google Play showed first complained about ads: one described waits of about a minute almost every time they left a chat, the other skip buttons that opened the app store. We could not count ads ourselves. Advertising is also what your location is shared for, per the Data safety label; to opt out of customised ads, the policy says to email PolyBuzz with “Opt-out Request” in the subject line.

Why does the PolyBuzz App Store link not work?

Because the listing is gone. Google's fifth US result for “poly ai” is PolyBuzz's App Store page, and Apple returned an error for it on 18, 19 and 26 October 2026:

Apple's App Store web page on 26 October 2026 at the address of the PolyBuzz: Chat with Characters listing, showing the App Store for iPhone sidebar and the message The page you're looking for can't be found

The PolyBuzz App Store address from Google's results, opened in the US store on 26 October 2026. Apple returns “The page you're looking for can't be found.”, as it did on 18 October.

On 26 October Apple's lookup service found no app with that ID in any of eight country stores, from the US and UK to India and Japan, and a US store search for “polybuzz” returned eight apps, none from Cloud Whale, among them a double-L “PollyBuzz” from an individual developer. The archive's copy of 4 October shows the real listing live, with 4.4 stars from 480K ratings, so it vanished between 4 and 18 October; neither Apple nor the developer has said why. On an iPhone, don't install a near-match.

How to use PolyBuzz more safely

  1. Install it only from the Google Play listing offered by CLOUD WHALE INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY LLC.
  2. When the app asks for location, choose Don't allow.
  3. Don't upload photos of yourself or anyone you know.
  4. Treat every chat as stored: leave out your real name, address, school and workplace.
  5. If you subscribe, cancel before renewal under Payments & subscriptions in Google Play; Google notes that uninstalling does not cancel.
  6. To leave for good, use Settings > Account > Delete in the app.

One tip from our own testing: keep a character's description in plain text. Styled Unicode letters cost a language model ten to fifteen times the tokens of plain words in our measurement, so save a cute font for the display name.

Is PolyBuzz worth it?

For an adult who wants free character chat and accepts ads, yes, with the settings above; nothing we read suggests a scam. It is not as private as its “Discreet” marketing suggests, paying needs care because the terms refuse refunds, and it is not for anyone under 18, whatever the 17+ badge or the FAQ's Teen Mode says.

Our review method scores 3 as “usable for some purposes; clear drawbacks.” That is where PolyBuzz sits on 26 October 2026: a week of rechecks found it still maintained, still 17+ on Play and 18+ in its terms, still sharing location for ads, and still missing from the App Store. We will update it once we can test the app itself, and re-check within six months. More checked apps and sites are in our Reviews section.

Frequently asked questions

Is PollyBuzz the same as PolyBuzz?

As a search, yes: the double-L spelling is a common typo for PolyBuzz, the chat app formerly called Poly.AI. As an app, check the developer. On 26 October 2026 a US App Store search for “polybuzz” returned a “PollyBuzz” from an individual developer, not from Cloud Whale Interactive Technology.

Is PolyBuzz safe for kids?

No. Its terms bar anyone under 18 worldwide, and Google Play rates it Mature 17+. Outside the UK the check is a typed birthdate. The FAQ mentions a Teen Mode, but the terms say under-18s “will be denied for services”.

Can you use PolyBuzz without an account?

Its privacy policy says guests can browse and chat “with limitations”, after giving a birthdate they cannot change later. We could not try it: on 19 and 26 October 2026 the web version was blocked from India.

Does PolyBuzz sell your data?

Its privacy policy says “We DO NOT sell User Information.” It shares data with service partners “including the Chat-GPT platform”, and Google Play lists location as shared for advertising or marketing.

How much is PolyBuzz premium?

In the Internet Archive's copy of Apple's US listing from 4 October 2026, Poly Standard cost $9.90 a month or $4.99 a week, Premium $19.90 a month and Ultimate $29.90 a month. On 26 October we could not check live prices: the listing is gone and the web shop is blocked from India.

How do I delete my PolyBuzz account?

In the app, go to Settings, then Account, then Delete, according to the privacy policy; it cannot be undone. Cancel any subscription first.
